JAMMU, JUNE 03: District Magistrate Jammu Dr Rakesh Minhas today chaired the District Level Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) meeting to review the implementation of anti-drug initiatives in the district.
The meeting reviewed the impact of the rigorous 100-day Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyaan. The DM appreciated inter-departmental efforts and discussed course corrections for the rest of the programme.
He reviewed "Drug Free Panchayat" declarations and scrutinised administrative and police actions in identified drug hotspots. Emphasising awareness, the DM discussed strategies to engage school children.
He stressed amplifying information dissemination to reach every individual. He also directed regular, rigorous inspections of psychiatric institutions and de-addiction facilities.
The meeting was attended by ADCs Ansuya Jamwal and Vidhu Shekhar, CMO Dr Harbaksh Singh, Joint Director Information Deepak Dubey, DSWO Preeti Sharma and other stakeholders.
Earlier, the DM chaired a meeting with psychiatrists, medical officers and managers of private de-addiction centres.
He set a strict six-month deadline for these facilities to comply with Statutory Order (SO) 91 of 2026, warning of severe legal action for non-compliance.
While assuring administrative support to those actively working to eradicate the drug menace, he welcomed constructive suggestions from stakeholders. Warning against the misuse of prescription medicines, the DM directed the Assistant Drugs Controller to maintain strict surveillance over the stock and sale of scheduled drugs.
Each pill has to be accounted for,” the DM stated categorically, ordering strict legal action against any establishment failing to maintain proper stock and sale records.
