Budgam, May 26: The District Legal Services Authority Budgam on Tuesday issued directions prohibiting the circulation and uploading of photographs of a minor victim from Gulwanpora, who was recently killed, stating that such actions are unlawful and punishable under law.
In its order, the DLSA said that images of the victim were being shared on multiple social media platforms, in violation of provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act and the right to privacy of the victim and her family.
The authority directed all social media platforms and members of the public to immediately remove and stop further dissemination of the victim’s photographs, stating that disclosure of the identity of a minor victim constitutes a punishable offence.
The order warned that strict legal action would be taken against those who continue to circulate such content despite the directive.
The Senior Superintendent of Police Budgam has also been instructed to register FIRs against individuals found violating the order.
