JAMMU, May 19: A team of the FCS&CA Department headed by the Director, FCS&CA, Jammu, Sh. Rajesh Kumar Shavan, JKAS, conducted a comprehensive inspection of Some flour mills at Gangyal which are engaged in grinding wheat into Atta under the Public Distribution System (PDS).
The inspection was aimed at reviewing the grinding process, quality standards, hygiene and sanitation conditions, packaging, stock position, and timely dispatch of Atta to the departmental stores for further distribution among the consumers. The Mills inspected includes, Upkar Flour Mill, Mahajan Flour Mill, Jammu Flour Mill, National Flour Mill and Bhagwati Flour Mill.
During inspection the Director emphasized the importance of maintaining prescribed quality parameters and ensuring transparency and efficiency in the supply chain so that quality food grains and Atta are made available to beneficiaries without any interruption.
He also directed the concerned officials and mill operators for proper stacking of wheat and Atta, to take preventive measures for pest control, to strictly adhere to the guidelines and standards laid down by the Department. A random check of weight at Flour Mill, Upkar Flour Mill and Jammu Flour Mill, found some bags underweight for which the Director issued on spot instructions for improvement & warned for strict action in future. Meanwhile an action has been ordered against the Supervisor FCS&CA.
On Protection of Consumer Affairs aspect, the Director also inspected JK Oil Mill at Gangyal to see the quality control measures, packaging and labelling etc.
The Director Inspected each section of the Mill & the manager of the mill Sh. Vijay Sharma explained all the functioning of production, quality, labelling etc.
However, on random check of the weight of packaged containers certain variations were found, which were contrary to the set standards.
The Director ordered that all said observations be referred to the Commissioner, Legal Metrology Department for action & follow up.
The Director stressed upon the mill operator to maintain Hygiene, quality and standards in the production process so that consumers receive safe and quality edible oil products at the affordable rates. He further directed the officers of FCS&CA department to carry out regular inspections and strict monitoring of all essential commodities to prevent any irregularity, adulteration or unfair trade practices in the jurisdiction by retailers, wholesalers or the Manufacturers. The Department reaffirmed its commitment towards ensuring smooth functioning of the Public Distribution System and safeguarding the interests of consumers across Jammu Division by ensuring fair trade practices.
