Kishtwar, May 16: Deputy Commissioner/Principal Census Officer, Kishtwar Sh. Pankaj Kumar Sharma (JKAS), today addressed a press conference/media briefing regarding the upcoming Census 2027 and urged the people of the district to actively participate in the self-enumeration process, which is set to begin from May 17 (tomorrow).
Highlighting the significance of the exercise, the Deputy Commissioner informed that the Government of India has commenced the House Listing and Housing Census as part of Census 2027.
He stated that the first phase of Census 2027 in Kishtwar district is scheduled to be completed by September this year.
The Deputy Commissioner emphasized that Census 2027 will be India’s first fully digital census, incorporating a self-enumeration facility to ensure faster, transparent, and error-free data collection.
Citizens can complete the self-enumeration process using smartphones, laptops, or desktop computers by visiting the official census portal at sc.census.gov.in. He informed that detailed instructions regarding the self-enumeration process are available on the portal.
In addition, QR codes printed on banners, pamphlets, and awareness material distributed across the district can be scanned for direct access to the portal and step-by-step guidance.
After successful completion of self-enumeration, citizens will receive a Unique Identification Number along with a certificate.
The Deputy Commissioner advised the public to preserve this ID carefully, as it must be shown to the census enumerator during field verification visits in villages and localities.
Appealing to the public to cooperate fully, the Deputy Commissioner stated that census data plays a crucial role in planning and development activities, including electricity supply, water facilities, road infrastructure, employment generation, skill development, and other welfare schemes.
He urged people not to pay attention to rumours or misinformation circulating on social media regarding the census process. He clarified that enumerators visiting households will carry proper identification and should be treated respectfully.
Citizens are advised to verify the identification of enumerators before sharing information. He further reassured the public that no personal information collected during the census will be disclosed publicly, as the Census Act ensures complete confidentiality of all data provided by citizens.
Addressing concerns related to OTPs and misuse of information, the Deputy Commissioner clarified that there is no such risk involved in the process and that all information submitted through the digital platform remains secure and confidential.
The Deputy Commissioner made a special appeal to the youth of Kishtwar to assist elderly family members in completing self-enumeration so that every household can participate independently and accurately.
He expressed hope that Kishtwar district would achieve 100 percent self-enumeration and emerge as a model district in the successful implementation of Census 2027.
The district administration has urged all residents to participate responsibly and ensure accurate submission of information for effective planning and development of the region.
