JAMMU: The Traffic Department has taken strict action against traffic rule violators in Jammu district, imposing fines on around 26,000 individuals and suspending the RCs of their vehicles.
RTO Jammu Jasmeet Singh said that following Supreme Court directions, a list of 68,000 vehicles with multiple challans was shared by IG Traffic with the Transport Department. Owners were issued notices and given time to clear pending fines, which was later extended. However, after continued non-compliance, the RCs of 26,000 vehicles were suspended and the matter was reported to IG Traffic.
He said many of these were habitual violators, including some with over 400 challans and 389 owners with more than 100 violations.
