RAMBAN, APRIL 27: A meeting of the District-Level Narco Coordination Committee (NCORD) held today at Ramban under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Mohammad Alyas Khan, to review ongoing anti-narcotics measures and strengthen coordinated efforts to curb drug abuse across the district.
Reviewing the implementation of directions issued in the previous meeting, the Deputy Commissioner directed the Drug Inspector to take effective action in close coordination with the concerned Tehsildars, Police Department and intensify enforcement drives.
Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) and Tehsildars were asked to submit details of Drug-Free Panchayats for cross-verification and ensure strict surveillance in such areas.
He further directed SDMs and Tehsildars to maintain strict vigil on illegal poppy and cannabis cultivation and take immediate action if detected anywhere.
Emphasizing the need for a proactive approach, he called for innovative interventions and focused analysis to understand the root causes leading youth towards substance abuse.
Reviewing the functioning of the Addiction Treatment Facility (ATF) at District Hospital Ramban, the Deputy Commissioner directed the Chief Medical Officer to ensure quality medical care, counselling, and follow-up support for effective rehabilitation and prevention of relapse.
The Deputy Commissioner also reviewed the progress achieved by various departments under the ongoing 100-day Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir campaign and directed officers to implement the scheduled activities in a time-bound manner.
Highlighting the role of grassroots institutions in eradicating the menace of drugs, the Deputy Commissioner directed the ACD to strengthen the functioning of Panchayat Level Monitoring Committees and Panchayat-level Mahila Samitis across the district.
All concerned officers were instructed to intensify awareness under the ‘Nasha Mukt Abhiyan’ through IEC activities in both government and private institutions.
The Excise Department was directed to prepare a comprehensive awareness plan to educate the public about the ill effects of drug abuse. The Additional Deputy Commissioner also suggested various measures to make society drug-free and emphasized the need for coordinated efforts among all departments.
Among others, Additional Deputy Commissioner Ramban Varunjeet Singh Charak, ACR Shokat Hayat Mattoo, ACD Sheraz Ahmed, Chief Medical Officer Kamal Zadu, Tehsildar Ramban Deep Kumar, Tehsildar Headquarters Reejuta Mahajan, Drug Control Officer, and officers from various enforcement and line departments attended the meeting. Sub-Divisional Magistrates, Tehsildars, and other concerned officers participated through virtual mode.
