Budgam, Apr 15: Police in Budgam district have arrested a man accused in a rape case registered in 1987, bringing a nearly 39-year-old pending case back into focus.
The accused, identified as Bashir Ahmad Ganaie, a resident of Drer Kalipora Shopian and presently living in Kulgam, was wanted in FIR No. 237/1987 registered at Police Station Budgam under Sections 366 and 376 of the Ranbir Penal Code.
Police said the accused had been evading arrest since the case was filed but was apprehended during a targeted operation conducted by a team of Police Station Budgam based on specific inputs & has been taken into custody, and further legal proceedings will continue as per law.
