Srinagar, Apr 14: Delivering a strong message against the growing drug menace, Senior Superintendent of Police Srinagar, Dr G V Sundeep Chakravarthy announced a “double-intensity” crackdown on drug peddlers and the wider narcotics network, calling for greater public participation to make the fight effective and result-oriented.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of Baisakhi celebrations in Srinagar, Dr Sundeep said the police have devised an action-oriented strategy aimed at targeting not just drug users or small-time peddlers, but the entire ecosystem sustaining the trade. “Our aim is to hit the drug ecosystem. This is not just a fight of the police but of the entire society and every citizen,” he said.
He added that while anti-drug operations have been underway, the coming phase will see renewed and intensified action against suppliers and networks. He urged people to come forward with information, assuring that the identity of informants would be kept strictly confidential and that they would be suitably rewarded.
We need mohalla-level cooperation. It’s not that the public is not cooperating, but we need more support so that our fight becomes truly result-oriented,” he added.
