RAMBAN, MARCH 29: Taking swift action, the District Administration Ramban, led by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Alyas Khan, launched a crackdown on illegal transportation and black marketing of LPG cylinders in the district.
In a major action against illegal transportation of essential commodities, Police in Ramban, under the guidance of SSP Ramban Arun Gupta, today seized a total of 124 LPG cylinders during routine Nakka checking at different locations in the district.
During routine Nakka checking near Navyouga Tunnel, an auto load carrier bearing registration number JK03Q-7873, coming from Nowgam towards Kashmir, was stopped for inspection.
During checking, 24 LPG cylinders were found loaded inside the vehicle. The driver along with two co-drivers was questioned regarding the consignment; however, they failed to produce any valid documents or provide a satisfactory explanation.
Similarly, during routine Nakka checking at Jawahar Tunnel, a TATA 407 load carrier bearing registration number JK02DD-0915, arriving from the Kashmir side, was intercepted. Upon checking, 100 LPG cylinders were recovered from the vehicle, and the driver failed to produce any valid documents or justification for transporting the cylinders.
In both cases, it was found that the accused had committed offences under Section 3/7 of the Essential Commodities Act.
Accordingly, FIR No. 46/2026 has been registered at Police Station Banihal, while FIR No. 50/2026 has been registered at the concerned Police Station.
Investigations in both cases have been taken up by the police.
