Prof. K.S. Chandrasekar Vice Chancellor CLUJ & Dr. Kuldeep Gupta discuss opportunities to boost Kabaddi on campus

Jammu,Mar 25: In a significant step towards promoting sports and youth development, Prof. K.S. Chandrasekar, Vice-Chancellor of Cluster University of Jammu (CLUJ), and Dr. Kuldeep Kumar Gupta, General Secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir Amateur Kabaddi Association in the presence of Prof. Twinkle Suri (DAA, CLUJ), Dr. Vinod Bakshi ( Director Sports) and Dr. Satwant Singh Rissam (Journalist). held a productive meeting today to discuss collaborative initiatives for advancing Kabaddi within the university ecosystem.
This partnership underscores the shared commitment to fostering physical fitness, talent nurturing, and competitive spirit among students in Jammu and Kashmir. The discussions highlighted three key areas of collaboration. First, the duo plans to organize inter-college kabaddi leagues involving CLUJ's constituent colleges and schools. These leagues will provide a platform for regular, high-energy competitions, encouraging widespread student participation and rivalries that build team spirit. Second, joint training camps will be established using the university's modern infrastructure on Canal Road, Jammu.

Dr. Kuldeep Gupta, with his extensive experience as Technical Director of the Asian Kabaddi Federation and Chairman Referee Board, Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India for national youth championships, will lead skill-building sessions. These camps aim to equip students with professional techniques, referee training, and fitness regimens, preparing them for district, state, and national levels.Third, a robust talent scouting program will identify promising players from campus events for elevation to elite competitions. This initiative aligns with association's ongoing efforts in youth nationals and Asian events, ensuring local talents get pathways to represent Jammu and Kashmir proudly.

Prof. Chandrasekar emphasized, "Integrating kabaddi into our academic environment will holistically develop our students, blending education with sports excellence." Dr. Gupta added, "This collaboration leverages university resources to strengthen kabaddi's grassroots in the region, inspiring the next generation of champions."The partnership is poised to launch pilot events by mid-2026, with full integration into the university calendar. Stakeholders, including college principals and sports departments, will be involved to ensure seamless execution. This move not only elevates kabaddi's profile but also contributes to Jammu and Kashmir's broader sports promotion goals under regional development schemes.
