J&K Power Employees observe Protest against Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2025

JAMMU, Feb 12: J&K Power Employees and Engineers under the banner of Power employees and Engineers Coordination committee (JKPEECC) observed protest across J&K on the Nationwide Call of All India Power Engineers Federation and National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employee and Engineers(NCCOEE), .Er.Sachin Tickoo , Convenor JKPEECC J&K , General Secretary J&K Electrical Engineering Graduates Association & Vice chairman AIPEF , led the Protest , and Power Employees across J&K observed the protest demonstrations across all District Headquarters affecting routine work in Offices and Revenue centres without affecting the Power supply , expressing strong solidarity with the call for action against the power sector privatization, the Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2025, the proposed National Electricity Policy 2026, and for restoration of the Old Pension Scheme.

Sachin Tickoo, Convenor JKPEECC J&K speaking on the occasion stated that for the first time, the Samyukt KisanMorcha and Ten Central Trade Unions extended support and are joined the work Boycott in solidarity with power employees. With the participation of power employees, engineers, workers, and farmers, the 12 February action has become one of the largest industrial actions in independent India. JKPEECC has expressed concern that privatization of the power sector (Distribution through multiple licensing,Generation & Transmission through TBCB) is against the interests of poor consumers, small and medium industries, and the common public.

The situation in Telcom sector and aviation sector is an example of the weakening grip of regulators in a monopolised business and non-adherence to the consumer centric approach and compromising the consumer interests at the cost of private entities who are having only one aim i.e. to maximise their profits by cherry picking lucurative areas. Therefore, the Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2025 and the proposed National Electricity Policy 2026 must be withdrawn immediately.

JKPEECC appeals to Chief Minister J&K Omar Abdullah and Lt.Governor J&K to put a strong word of dissent against the Electricity Amendment Bill 2025 and Electricity Policy 2026 in order to safeguard the interests of Public sector Employees and consumers.
