 Union Home Secretary chairs a high level meet of Chief secretary's on Census2027

New Delhi, Jan 24: A Conference of Chief Secretaries of States/UTs, State Census Nodal Officers, Senior officers from MHA, and Directors of Census Operations, on Census2027 was held today in New Delhi.

The Union Home Secretary, Shri Govind Mohan chaired the conference in the presence of the Registrar General & Census Commissioner of India (RG&CCI), Mritunjay Kumar Narayan; Additional Registrar Generals, Sunil Kumar and  Sanjeev Kumar; Deputy Director General, Biswajit Das and senior officers of ORGI.

Welcoming the participants, the RG&CCI described Census2027 as a historic National exercise and outlined its overall preparedness. He briefed on the usage of the digital tools in the ensuing Census including introduction of Self-Enumeration.

Addressing the conference, the Union Home Secretary highlighted the long and rich tradition of Census in India while emphasizing the pivotal role of State/UT Governments in the successful conduct of #Census2027.

He urged States/UTs to ensure timely appointment and training of Census functionaries, republishing of Notifications, avoiding any jurisdictional changes up to 31-03-2027, effective use of digital tools including Self-Enumeration and a focused publicity & communication approach to build public awareness, trust and participation to achieve the full objectives of the Census 2027.

The Home Secretary also sought cooperation from the Chief Secretaries to regularly monitor and review the Census related activities in the States/UTs.
