Jammu, Jan 17: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and State Executive Member Er. Wasim Kohli has described the VB-GRAMG Act as a landmark reform that strengthens rural empowerment and grassroots development, fully aligned with the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. Kohli said the Act represents a transformative step in rural employment by assuring up to 125 days of guaranteed work per rural household annually, thereby providing income security and livelihood stability. He termed it a decisive move towards a legally backed, transparent and outcome-driven development framework.
Highlighting its core provisions, Kohli noted that the Act prioritises sustainable rural growth through the creation of durable assets such as village roads, irrigation and drainage networks, water conservation structures, flood protection works and vital community infrastructure. These initiatives, he said, will reinforce agriculture and strengthen village-level economies. He further stated that the legislation uniquely integrates employment with skill development, encouraging agri-based enterprises, rural entrepreneurship, women-led self-help groups and youth-centric initiatives. Strong emphasis has been placed on transparency and accountability through time-bound wage disbursement, social audits, geo-tagging of works and digital monitoring to eliminate corruption and leakages.
“Development should be measured by outcomes, not by the name of schemes,” Kohli asserted, adding that the Act holds special significance for Jammu and Kashmir, especially border, hilly and remote regions, by ensuring inclusive and balanced rural development across the Union Territory. Er. Kohli also expressed gratitude to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah for what he termed bold and people-centric decisions that prioritise public convenience and ease at the grassroots level.
