Stop playing with people’s sentiments: PDP to NC

Srinagar, August 1:Accusing Opposition National Conference of playing with sentiments of people of J&K ,PDP General Secretary Rafi Ahmad Mir said that NC was politicizing the issue of mortal remains of Afzal Guru when it has lost the moral standing to speak on the issue long back as the party chose power to sensitivities of the people.

Mir said that it is highly surprising to see a sudden realisation in NC that it finally accepted that travesty of justice had taken place in Afzal Guru's execution. He said that its ironical to recall the role played by the national conference at the time of his execution "they didn't bother to satisfy their alliance partner that demanding mortal remains was a constitutional right of his family and despite enjoying unconditional support from the centre and alliance partner congress ,national conference couldn't achieve anything for the people" .Mir said that the sensitivities of Afzal's family should be taken into account and parties should desist from abusing this issue for scoring political points.

He said that PDP has always maintained that late Afzal Guru's hanging was travesty of justice and constitutional requirements and process were not followed in hanging him out of turn.Mir said "it is a constitutional and religious mandate of late Afzal's family to get his mortal remains and the same shall be pursued democratically by our party".The way he was picked up from Serial No. 28 and singled out has been condemned by PDP when in opposition and today also it stands by the demand for return of his mortal remains.
