Baramulla, Nov 6: Baramulla Police launched Jammu and Kashmir’s first digital safety application aimed at ensuring swift emergency response and real-time public security.
Titled “Baramulla Safety App,” the platform allows residents to send instant SOS alerts that reach police within five seconds, enabling immediate tracking and action by duty officers.
Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Minga Sherpa said the app bridges the communication gap between citizens and authorities, allowing quick police response during distress.
Over 6,000 residents, including migrants, non-local workers and students, have already registered.
The app connects all police stations under a central monitoring system supervised by SHOs, DOs and the Police Control Room. It currently covers 15 enrolment categories, focusing on migrants, non-local employees, and terror victim families.
SSP Gurinderpal Singh said the app is adaptive and will expand based on future security needs, adding that any vulnerable person, including journalists and political workers, can register for protection.
Officials termed the initiative a model of “tech-driven policing,” expected to redefine community safety in north Kashmir.
