 High Court imposes Rs 50,000  cost on  Govt for repeatedly seeking adjournments concerning "Prosecution Sanction of former Punjab Chief Secretary"

Chandigarh, Aug 28: Punjab and Haryana high court has imposed a cost of Rs 50,000 on Punjab govt for repeatedly seeking adjournments in a contempt petition concerning the prosecution sanction of former Punjab chief secretary Vijay Kumar Janjua in a corruption case.

The matter is pending before HC in the wake of a contempt petition filed by Tulsi Ram Mishra, alleging non-compliance with the court's Sept 15, 2023, order to the state to forward all documents related to the sanction for prosecution of Janjua to the Centre within a stipulated period.

HC had also clarified that in case sanction is accorded to prosecute, the trial court shall proceed in accordance with the law and conclude the trial expeditiously.
