Sopore, July 12: Since its establishment, Cyber Police Station Sopore has received and acted upon 279 complaints involving various forms of cyber fraud, primarily online financial scams such as app-based investment frauds, phishing, SIM cloning, impersonation, and other digital deceptions targeting unsuspecting individuals.
The total financial loss reported in these cases stands at ₹1.52 crore, out of which ₹52.25 lakh has been successfully recovered and credited back to the victims’ bank accounts.
Additionally, ₹23.81 lakh has been lien-marked/frozen in the accounts of cyber fraudsters, with legal proceedings underway to ensure restitution to the rightful owners.
Cyber Police Station Sopore is now fully functional, handling not just investigation and redressal but also conducting awareness programmes in schools, colleges, and public spaces across Sopore Police District. Police urges the general public especially senior citizens, vulnerable groups, and digitally active individuals to remain alert and cautious while using online platforms.
