J&K: DC orders Inquiry into alleged medical negligence causing death of a lady

Srinagar, July 7: Amid allegations of medical negligence, Jammu and Kahsmir govt today ordered an inquiry into the death of a woman who died shortly after delivering her first child at District Hospital, Pulwama.

The family of the deceased  alleged medical negligence and speaking to reporters, the woman’s husband,  said he brought his wife to the hospital after she experienced labour pain. After I brought her here, I was told she would have a normal delivery and that there was no need for surgery.

She was kept under observation for two hours but after she was brought out, I was asked to feed her. Soon after that, she collapsed, and I was also asked to arrange blood.

He added that she was then taken to the operation theatre and had no pulse at that point & I forced my way in and saw that she had no pulse and no blood pressure.

He further added that after nearly an hour, I was told she would be referred to LD Hospital. He said that his wife had already died at District Hospital Pulwama and that there was no point in referring her to LD Hospital but when we reached LD Hospital, the doctors there said she was brought dead.

Deputy Commissioner Pulwama has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the alleged instance of medical negligence. The committee shall determine any breach of duty or care contributing to the death of the deceased and submit the inquiry report along with recommendations within 15 days.

The inquiry will be chaired by the Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Pulwama, and will include the Tehsildar of Litter, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Pulwama, a consultant surgeon, a consultant gynaecologist, and an anaesthesiologist as members.
