JAMMU, July 05: In a firm and decisive action against illegal encroachments, the Jammu Development Authority (JDA), under the directions of Vice Chairman, Sh. Rupesh Kumar (IAS), today conducted a major anti-encroachment drive in Khasra No. 169, Khanpur, Nagrota, successfully retrieving a substantial parcel of JDA-owned land that had been illegally occupied.
During the drive, 9 unauthorized structures—comprising both temporary and permanent encroachments—were demolished.
The operation was carried out by a dedicated team led by Director Land Management - Mr. Garbi Rashid (JKAS) and Tehsildar JDA, Mrs. Rashi Dutta (JKAS), with ground-level assistance provided by the police team headed by SDPO Nagrota, Sh. Vinod Kumar, and SHO Nagrota, Sh. Pervaiz Ahmed, along with other enforcement and support staff of JDA.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chairman JDA, Sh. Rupesh Kumar, reiterated that JDA has adopted a zero-tolerance approach against land grabbers and encroachers.
He emphasized that JDA land is public property meant for planned and equitable development of the Union Territory, and any attempt to usurp or misuse such land will be met with firm legal and administrative action.
The Vice Chairman further directed that all retrieved lands be immediately secured through fencing and boundary demarcation, and legal proceedings be initiated against habitual encroachers under the applicable provisions of IPC.
In a significant crackdown on bovine smuggling under *Operation Kamdhenu,* Jammu Police successfully thwarted two separate attempts at illegal Cattle transportation during routine naka checking on the National Highway (NHW) in the Nagrota area, rescuing 34 bovine animals.
Following the successful operation, two cases:- *FIR No.141/2025 and FIR No.145/2025were registered at Police Station Nagrota* under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (PCA Act).
The accused in these cases have been identified as: *1. Babur Chaudhary,* S/O Mohd Hussain, R/O Maraliyan, Miran Sahib, Jammu *2. Zakir Hussain,* S/O Ahmad Ali, R/O Khanpur, Nagrota *3. Bashir Ahmed Kichloo,* S/O Haji Abraham, R/O Khanpur, Nagrota A truck bearing registration number *JK21D/0182,* used in the transportation of the animals, was also seized. During the course of investigation, it was revealed that the *accused had illegally constructed permanent (pacca) sheds* on land belonging to the Jammu Development Authority (JDA) in Khanpura, Nagrota.
These unauthorized structures were being used as hubs for the illegal storage and transit of cattle.
Acting promptly and following due legal process, a joint team of Jammu Police and JDA officials today conducted a demolition drive at the site and razed the illegal structures.
This action highlights the Jammu & Kashmir Police’s firm resolve under Operation Kamdhenu to combat bovine smuggling, prevent the encroachment of government land, and uphold the rule of law across the Union Territory.
