New Delhi, July 3: The Anti-Corruption Branch has arrested an Executive Engineer in the Irrigation and Flood Control Department and a private contractor for fraud worth Rs 4.6 crore.
The two, including Executive Engineer, have been accused of siphoning off public funds for projects that were never executed, the ACB said.
Following a complaint by the Vigilance Branch of the Irrigation and Flood Control Department, a preliminary inquiry was initiated by a panel of engineers constituted by the Principal Secretary of the Department to physically verify the works in question.
The committee found that in four separate cases, 100% of the tendered amount was disbursed even though no physical work had been executed.
The fraud involved submission of forged bank guarantees and manipulated measurement and material test records, it added.
The ACB also found that fabricated test reports and financial records were created by the accused to support their claims.
