BHUBANESWAR, June 29: Three devotees, including two women, lost their lives and several others were injured in a stampede, which took place around chariots in Puri in the early hours of Sunday.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi offered a personal apology and on behalf of his Government for the lives lost in the stampede.
He announced immediate probe into alleged lapses in security arrangement, which he termed unpardonable. Mr. Majhi said exemplary action would be taken against persons responsible for the tragic incident.
Odisha Chief minister Mohan Majhi announced transfer of Puri District Collector Siddharth S Swain and SP Binit Agarwal following the death of three persons in stampede. He ordered a high level inquiry under chairmanship of Development Commissioner and also announced compensation of ₹25 lakh each for next of kin of persons who lost lives in the stampede.
Mr. Majhi further added that Puri CDP Bishnu Charan Pati, Police Commandant Ajay Padhi were suspended.
