Benguluru, June 06: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced the immediate suspension of the Bengaluru Police Commissioner and other top police officials after 11 people died and 47 others were injured in the stampede near the stadium when a special felicitation ceremony was organised by the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) to honour the RCB players after the franchise won their maiden IPL trophy after 18 years.
Addressing a press conference after holding a Cabinet meeting today, Siddaramaiah said Police Commissioner B Dayananda, Chinnaswamy stadium in-charge, ACP, central DCP, station house officer, police housemaster and Cubbon Park police station in-charge were suspended immediately following the stampede.
He also said he instructed the Karnataka DGP and IGP to arrest the RCB representatives, DNA event managers and KSCA members immediately in the wake of the tragedy
Siddaramaiah also said his government handed over the enquiry to the Crime Investigation Department and planned to appoint a commission to probe the tragedy.
The Bengaluru Police registered a case against the RCB team, the KSCA, DNA Networks and others in connection with the stampede.
