JAMMU, June 5: Senior Congress leader and DDC Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony, has urged the Transport Minister to immediately restore full-fledged J&K State Road Transport Corporation bus operations to Delhi and other northern states.
Tony said SRTC buses have not resumed their original long-distance routes, curtailed years ago during the India-Pakistan conflict, and are currently operating only up to Jalandhar.
He pointed out that while other State Road Transport Corporations run buses uninterruptedly up to Jammu and Katra, J&K’s own fleet remains restricted-causing public inconvenience and revenue loss.
Tony said the Managing Director of SRTC must be held accountable for the continued suspension of key routes. This neglect is pushing SRTC deeper into losses. The routes to Delhi and beyond must be restored immediately.
Tony also accused the SRTC’s administrative machinery of inefficiency and corruption. He appealed to the Commissioner Secretary of the Transport Department to restructure the corporation and remove officials responsible for its decline.
Those who failed the system must be shown the door if SRTC is to regain its past standing,” Tony added.
He urged authorities to act without delay to revive the bus services and restore public confidence in J&K’s transport infrastructure.
