RAJOURI, June 5: In a significant achievement, District Rajouri has secured the 2nd rank at the national level in the category of Hilly and Northeast Districts under the Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari (JSJB) Abhiyan, a key component of the Government of India’s flagship ‘Catch the Rain’ campaign.
The campaign, led by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, aims to promote rainwater harvesting and sustainable water management practices across the country.
The recognition was conferred during a national-level review meeting, where Union Minister of Jal Shakti, C.R. Patil, appreciated Rajouri’s exceptional performance and lauded the District Administration’s dedicated efforts amid multiple challenges.
District Development Commissioner, Abhishek Sharma, shared that over 4214 water conservation structures have been geo-tagged and uploaded on the JSJB portal, including 132 Amrit Sarovars, 894 ponds, 510 bowlis, 2270 harvesting tanks, and 408 dugwells.
He noted that these initiatives have significantly enhanced the district’s water resilience. Despite disruptions due to cross-border shelling, the district met all campaign targets under the DDC’s close supervision, making this recognition a testament to the people’s resolve and administration’s commitment.
Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 6, 2024, the JSJB Abhiyan is a nationwide movement to build climate-resilient, water-secure communities.
Rajouri’s achievement now positions it as a model for community-driven water conservation efforts under the ‘Catch the Rain, where it falls, when it falls’ initiative.
