Tony questions Jal Shakti Department on water shortage?

JAMMU, June 2: Senior Congress leader and District Development Council Member Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony, today expressed deep concern over the growing water crisis in Jammu city, particularly in the Rajiv Nagar area.

Accompanied by officials from the Public Health Engineering Department, Tony undertook an extensive tour of Rajiv Nagar to assess the situation on the ground..

During the visit, the people of the area apprised the visiting Congress leader that the Kiryani Talab tube well, a key source for the area—has yet to see the installation of a water lifting motor, leaving thousands of residents on the mercy of erratic water supply amid soaring summer temperatures.

Calling the situation “alarming” and “completely avoidable,” Tony strongly appealed to the PHE Minister to expedite the digging and operationalization of new tube wells under various government schemes.

We are only at the beginning of what is expected to be an extremely hot summer, and already the people of Jammu are suffering & the government must treat this as a top priority.

Tony urged the department to accelerate the installation of water lifting motors and ensure timely maintenance of existing infrastructure to avoid further distress.

He emphasized that access to clean and sufficient drinking water is a basic human right and must not be compromised under any circumstances.

He also highlighted the urgent need for coordination between departments and warned that continued delays will only deepen the crisis & the voice of the people cannot go unheard, so administration must wake up before the situation turns into a full-blown emergency.
