SP South Jammu chairs Thana Diwas ; informs on Mock Drill



Jammu, May 30: As part of the community policing initiative under the directions of SSP Jammu Sh. Joginder Singh-JKPS, Thana Diwas was conducted today by Jammu Police, South Zone at Police Station Bagh-e-Bahu, Chaired by SP South Sh. Ajay Sharma-JKPS along with SDPO South Sh. Sheezan Bhat-JKPS , and SHO PS Bagh-e-Bahu Insp Ashwani Kumar.

The event witnessed active participation from local residents, senior citizens, members of civil society, and market associations. Thana Diwas aims to provide a platform for open interaction between the police and the public, enabling direct redressal of grievances and strengthening of grassroots policing.

Key Issues and Discussions:

* *🔸 Concern Over Rehriwalas and Traffic Congestion* Citizens raised concerns regarding the increasing number of street vendors (Rehriwalas) in the Bagh-e-Bahu area, particularly around busy spots and marketplaces. The gathering highlighted how unregulated vending is leading to frequent traffic jams and pedestrian inconvenience. SP South assured the public that a coordinated approach involving traffic police and Jammu Municipal Corporation will be initiated to streamline vending zones and ensure smooth vehicular movement.

*🔸 Drug Abuse Awareness* Participants were sensitized about the growing menace of drug abuse, particularly among youth. SP South emphasized the need for community participation in identifying and reporting suspicious activities. Citizens were encouraged to engage youth in positive activities like Sports and remain vigilant in their neighborhoods.

*🔸 Security Vigilance and Suspicious Activity Reporting* In the wake of the prevailing security scenario, participants were advised to remain alert and report any suspicious object, movement, or person to the nearest police unit without delay. It was stressed that public vigilance plays a critical role in maintaining peace and order.

*🔸 Civil Administration Issues Raised* Several issues which fall under the domain of civil administration were brought up during the interaction. SP South assured that these concerns will be taken up with the concerned departments for necessary action.

*🔸 COVID-23 Preventive Measures* In view of rising cases of COVID-23, the public was urged to maintain personal hygiene, avoid overcrowded places, and follow respiratory etiquettes. Citizens were reminded that responsible behavior is crucial to preventing another outbreak.

*🔸 Mock Drill Briefing* Participants were informed about the mock drill to be conducted tomorrow. Citizens were requested not to panic during the exercise and to fully cooperate with authorities. The drill aims to test preparedness and response in war like situations.

*🔸 CCTV Installation Drive* All participants were encouraged to install CCTV cameras at vulnerable points, especially near commercial establishments, lanes, and residential entry points. SP South highlighted that CCTV coverage significantly enhances the deterrence and detection capabilities of police forces, aiding in prompt resolution of criminal activities. *🔸 Tenant Verification Drive* The importance of tenant and domestic help verification was reiterated. House owners and property dealers were urged to submit tenant details at the nearest police station. Verification helps maintain a secure environment and prevents anti-social elements from taking shelter in residential areas.

*🔸 Positive Suggestions Welcomed* The event also saw constructive suggestions from the public. SP South assured that all positive suggestions are being documented and wherever feasible, they will be integrated into community policing initiatives or forwarded to relevant departments for implementation.

Apart from this, continuing the crackdown under Operation Ploughing, strict action was taken against illegal mining activities in the South Zone: •One dumper bearing registration number JK02 CH 8717 was seized at Police Post Phallian Mandal for violation of Form-A norms along with 02 JCB machines seized from the riverbed of the Tawi river for carrying out illegal extraction of minor minerals. Jammu Police, South Zone reiterates its commitment to public safety, transparency, and environmental preservation. Citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious activity or illegal mining by contacting their nearest police unit.
