SRINAGAR, MAY 30: The newly posted Secretary to the School Education Department, Ram Nivas Sharma, marked his first official visit to Srinagar today with a comprehensive tour of several key educational institutions.
Marking his inaugural visit to various educational institutions in Srinagar, Ram Nivas Sharma commenced interactions at each school with the beginning of the National Anthem—setting a tone of unity, respect, and patriotism.
Accompanied by Director School Education Kashmir, Dr. G. N. Itoo, Secretary School Education visited S.P. Higher Secondary School Srinagar, Girls Higher Secondary School Kothibagh, and Middle School Kothibagh, where he directly interacted with students and staff, gaining direct insight into ground realities and student aspirations.
At the Kindergarten section of Middle School Kothibagh, Secretary Sharma shared moments of joy with little kids, emphasizing the importance of early childhood education and joyful learning environments.
Addressing students during the visit, the Secretary urged them to not only focus on academic excellence but also engage actively in co-curricular activities.
He emphasized the need for students to embrace the opportunities of the modern Artificial Intelligence era.
Later in the day, a review meeting was convened in the Conference Hall of the Directorate of School Education Kashmir, where Sharma held detailed discussions with higher officers of the department, including Chief Education Officers from across the Kashmir Division and other senior officials.
Dr. G. N. Itoo gave a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation highlighting ongoing academic and non-academic initiatives, along with key developmental projects underway in the region.
In his remarks, Sharma reiterated a student-first approach: The child must be at the centre of all our efforts. Student results reflect the system, and the teacher is at the heart of that reflection.
He assured that infrastructure development in schools will remain a core priority.
