SRINAGAR, May 24: Alok Kumar, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), who was recently given the additional charge of Commandant General, Home Guards (HG), Civil Defence, and SDRF, today chaired the first meeting of the HG, CD, and SDRF.
The meeting was held at the SDRF 1st Battalion Headquarters in Srinagar and attended by senior officers and field commanders.
A statement said the meeting aimed to strengthen disaster response, improve coordination among agencies, and boost operational efficiency across Jammu and Kashmir.
At the beginning of the session, the Commandant SDRF 1st Battalion Srinagar welcomed the Commandant General and other officers. He briefed the chair about the current functioning of SDRF, availability of infrastructure and equipment, and manpower deployment at district headquarters and key locations.
The Director Civil Defence & SDRF Kashmir also gave a detailed presentation on Civil Defence preparedness, classification of Civil Defence units, and the existing setup across categorized districts and towns in J&K.
The meeting reviewed recent deployments of Home Guards, Civil Defence, and SDRF teams, especially in border districts, to support rescue and evacuation efforts.
The planned deployment of SDRF Mountain Rescue Teams (MRTs) for the upcoming Amarnathji Yatra 2025 was also discussed.
In his address, Alok Kumar underlined the importance of regular training, drills and skill development to ensure swift disaster response. He highlighted the key role of Civil Defence and Home Guards in community outreach and urged for greater public participation through awareness drives, mock drills, and volunteer engagement, especially in vulnerable and border areas.
He also stressed the need for better coordination among Home Guards, Civil Defence, SDRF, and Fire & Emergency Services to deliver quick and effective responses during emergencies.
The meeting concluded with the Commandant General inspecting rescue equipment and interacting with SDRF and NDRF personnel. He appreciated their efforts during past rescue operations.
