J&K: 4 of family die of suspected food poisoning

RAJOURI, Dec 8: A 40-year-old man and his three minor children died, while his wife and another daughter fell sick, due to suspected food poisoning in a remote village of Kotranka Sub-Division, Rajouri district.

Principal of GMC Rajouri, Dr A S Bhatia said that one Fazal Hussain of Badhal Gorla village, his wife Shamim Akhter and the couple’s four children were admitted to Rajouri Government Medical College Hospital with severe dyspepsia late Saturday. Fazal Hussain died during treatment in the wee hours of Sunday, while his wife and the children were referred to GMC Jammu for specialized treatment.

DC Rajouri announced immediate financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh to the affected family, provided from Red Cross Funds, through Tehsildar Koteranka, Sahil Ali Shah.

The administration promptly dispatched a health team to the village, which collected samples of the food consumed by the victims and the local water supply. The samples have been sent for forensic analysis and the administration is closely monitoring the situation to ensure public safety and prevent further risks.
