Jalandhar, June 18: In a surprise check, conducted by Harmanbir Singh Gill, IPS, Deputy Inspector General of Jalandhar Range, at the Tanda police station, a Station House Officer and a Deputy Superintendent of Police of the Punjab Police were found sleeping at their respective residences during their duty hours.
It was also found that only one Additional Munshi (AMHC) was manning the police station in the night hours but without any weapon.
During the inspection, Gill reviewed the records and the presence of police personnel at the station.
It was also found out that the scheduled roll call at 8 am was also not conducted, directly contravening guidelines set by senior officers. Additional police personnel arrived at the station between 9 am and 9.15 am, approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes after the DIG’s departure, further indicating a critical lapse in the security protocols.
Station House Officer of the Tanda PS, has been suspended and transferred to police lines due to negligence in duty and inadequate supervision.
Meanwhile, Harjit Singh, the DSP, has been asked to give an explanation about his absence from the Tanda police station in the next three days.
Gill emphasised that diligent personnel would be duly recognized and rewarded, while those found violating rules would face appropriate disciplinary actions.
