
JAMMU, MARCH 13: Director General of Police (DGP), Dr. S P Vaid has called for a perspective planning to bring about visible improvements in traffic management in the State. He said that effective monitoring and supervision is must for better traffic management.
Dr. Vaid was interacting with police officers at a meeting held at Traffic Police Headquarters, here today.
The meeting was convened to review traffic management in the State and to bring improvements therein. Various issues related to the traffic regulations were discussed in length and breadth.
DGP asked traffic police officers to bring innovative changes in the system and strengthen the management. He said that besides work force, we have to rely upon the latest technology to supervise and monitor traffic management. A perspective planning and strict enforcement of Motor Vehicle Act would help to minimize the difficulties of the people caused due to traffic jams, he said.
Dr Vaid said the awareness of traffic rules among the road users is crucial to reduce the violations causing traffic mess on busy roads. People’s cooperation in bringing improvement in management needs to be focused and all stakeholders would have to coordinate in getting desired results on the ground, he added.
Highlighting the importance of effective monitoring and supervision for better traffic management, DGP said that in view of the growth in population and flow of vehicular traffic, responsibilities of stakeholders involved in the traffic management and system, have increased and we have to mould ourselves and come to the requirements. Improvement with adaption of latest equipments and gadgets has also become essential, he added.
Dr. Vaid said that regular checking of valid documents and adherence of traffic signals should be ensured. Monitoring with the help of latest gadgets would help to curb the visible offences, he said adding that the major checking points would be identified and connected through CCTNS in order to bring transparency in the system.
Emphasizing upon the officers, Dr. Vaid asked for great deal of dedication and coordination with other field agencies, saying that though the task is being managed satisfactory but there is still scope for further improvements. He said that in view of the enlarging responsibilities, Traffic Wing has been strengthened by providing services of SPOs to overcome deficiency of manpower. He said that PHQ would provide active support to the Traffic Wing in strengthening its sources and manpower.
DGP informed the meeting that PHQ is aware of the problems faced by the personnel performing their duties on the roads, exposed to extreme weather conditions. He asked to prepare a comprehensive plan providing shelters with basic amenities for the personnel at different places. He said besides other things, all possible welfare measures would be adopted to ease the difficulties of the personnel performing in different areas of the State.
Earlier, IGP (Traffic), Mr. Jagjit Kumar, gave a detailed presentation about the functioning of traffic police. He said that effective enforcement work for improvement in traffic management has been taken and the system has been giving rich dividends so far as minimizing the accidents in vulnerable areas.
Among others, the meeting was attended by ADGP (Hqrs) VK Singh, IsGP, SL Sharma and JP Singh, DOP, Pawan Gupta, AIsGP, Rahul Malik, JA Koul, Sheikh Junaid Mehmood, Mubassir Latifi, Sameer Rekhi and Kulbir Singh, SSP Traffic, Nisha Nathyal, Addl. SP Traffic, Rohit Baskotra, Sr.ADO, Nasir Khan, DD (B), Munesh Dutta and other traffic police officers.
