JK Govt to focus strengthening of Village Dairy Cooperative Societies


?              JAMMU, MARCH 4: Jammu and Kashmir Milk Producer’s Cooperative Limited (JKMPCL) achieved turnover of Rs 21.19 crore and earned a net profit of Rs 8.60 lakh during 2015-2016. 

Also, during the past decade procurement price paid by JKMPCL has increased by 200% which is at par with other leading Dairy Cooperatives of the country.

This information was given in a meeting chaired by the Minister of State for Forest, Environment, Animal & Sheep Husbandry, Cooperative and Fisheries, Mir Zahoor Ahmad here today.

 The meeting was convened to review the progress and status of dairy development activities in J&K.

Chief Executive Officer, JKMPCL Mayank Tiwari apprised the Minister that JKMPCL is the apex dairy cooperative of the State with a membership base of over 13000 milk producers associated to this organization through more than 400 village dairy cooperative societies.  

It was informed that so far 10 milk routes with 208 Milk Producers Cooperatives have been organized in Kashmir covering districts of Anantnag, Pulwama, Budgam and Baramulla while 8 milk routes with 157 Milk Producers Cooperatives have been organized in Jammu region covering districts of Jammu, Samba and Kathua. 

 It was also given out in the meeting that under Centrally Sponsored Scheme National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD), JKMPCL is undertaking substantial expansion of dairy plants. New unit at Cheshmashahi, Srinagar would be commissioned with 50000 litres per day capacity by the end of this month, the meeting was told.

Appreciating JKMPCL for successful operations and overall progress, the Minister directed them for imparting scientific and modern methods of dairy enhancement to the Self Help Groups (SHGs) in the State so that their livelihood will be enhanced. He also stressed for strengthening of Village Dairy Cooperative Societies.
