Governor for developing SMVDCoN as centre of excellence in nursing education

 KAKRYAL, FEBRUARY 24: The Lamp Lighting and Oath Taking Ceremony of the 1st batch of B. Sc. Nursing students of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi College of Nursing (SMVDCoN), Kakryal, was held here today.

Governor N. N. Vohra, Chairman of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, was the Chief Guest.

Mrs. Usha Vohra, First Lady; Dr. S. S. Bloeria, Dr. Ashok Bhan, Shri H. L. Maini and Maj. Gen. (Retd) Shiv Kumar Sharma, Board Members; Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University and Dr. M. K. Bhandari, Commissioner, Health and Medical Education were present on the occasion.

Speaking at the function, the Governor observed that after the establishment of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Gurukul, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Kakryal, the establishment of the Nursing College is yet another significant contribution of the Shrine Board towards the development of Katra and its adjoining area.

Lauding the satisfactory functioning of the Nursing College, the Governor underscored the crucial need for all stakeholders increasing their efforts on a sustained basis to develop this institution as a front rank institution in nursing and research and for its so alumni to serve the society with distinction. He stressed on the Faculty and the students of the College to continuously update their knowledge and make the maximum possible use of the Library and the Laboratory and other facilities to advance their careers.

Referring to the Lamp Lighting and Oath Taking Ceremony, the Governor observed that this is an important occasion for every nursing student particularly as it marks a commitment of the nurse to adhere to the highest professional values and standards. He congratulated the student nurses for embarking on this noble profession and stressed that they should not miss any opportunity for learning to care for patients. He further observed that the attachment of this College with the prestigiousShri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital is a privilege for this institution.

The Governor asked the CEO of the Shrine Board, Shri A.K Sahu, to ensure that the School of Architecture and Planning, New Delhi, timely finalize the Master Plan of the area adjoining the Superspeciality Hospital so that an autonomous complex for the College of Nursing could be established very early, to be followed by the establishment of the proposed Medical College. He directed Sh. Sahu to ensure that the under construction additional block of Nurses Hostel was completed well before the admission of the 2nd batch of students to the College.  

The Governor released the first issue of ‘Dhatri’, the quarterly Newsletter of the SMVDCoN, which was brought out to mark the occasion of the Lamp Lighting and Oath Taking Ceremony of the 1st batch of the students of this College.

In his welcome address, Maj. Gen. (Retd) Shiv Kumar Sharma, Member of the Shrine Board and Chairman of the Governing Body of SMVDCoN, gave details of the achievements of the College in academics and co-curricular activities in the past seven months of its functioning. He said that the classes for the second Semester commenced last month and the process for the admission of the 2nd batch of B.Sc. Nursing students (Session 2017-18) would commence in April 2017.

The Lamp Lighting and Oath Taking Ceremony of the College was attended by Members of the Governing Body of the Nursing College which included Chief Executive Officer of the Shrine Board and Dr. V. Verma, Dean, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University. Dr. M. K. Kumar, Additional CEO of the Board also attended.

Earlier, when all the Nursing students assembled on the stage holding candles, the Faculty lit their candles and, thereafter, all the students took Oath for rendering professional, ethical and selfless service. This ceremony initiates the students into the noble profession of nursing. Adorned in their uniforms for the first time, the students shall hereafter study and practice in actual medical care surroundings.

A documentary regarding the College of Nursing was screened on this occasion to highlight the various facilities available in this institution for imparting nursing education of the highest standards.

Dr. Shailla Cannie, Principal of the Nursing College, administered the Oath to the students and presented a Vote of Thanks.

Among those present on the occasion were Dr. (Brig.) Man Mohan Harjai, Chief Administrative Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Kakryal and Administrator of the Nursing College; Dr. Shirish Dhoble, Clinical Director; Mr. Manu Ramachandar, Facility Director, medicos and senior executives of the Superspeciality Hospital, Kakryal; Faculty, staff and students of the Nursing College.
