Srinagar, February 19: Minister for Public Works, Mr Naeem Akhtar today called for employing latest project management techniques for timely completion of projects in key sectors.
Speaking at a review meeting of the R&B Department Kashmir here this morning, the Minister set timeline for completion of all the ongoing projects while laying focus on quality execution of works and adopting proper design methodology.
Chief Engineer R&B Department Kashmir, Chief Engineer, Mechanical Engineering Department, Chief Engineer PMGSY, Superintending Engineers and Executive Engineers of Kashmir division were present at the meeting.
The Minister took a comprehensive review of the projects being executed by the PWD in R&B, Health, Education and under Centrally Sponsored Schemes.
Mr Akhtar called for expediting projects under NABARD and CRF for which funds to the tune of Rs 103.57 crore and Rs 65.94 crore respectively have been earmarked for the current financial year. “Providing reliable connectivity, construction of quality and safe roads, bridges and tunnels for sustainable and inclusive socio-economic growth is the thrust area for the Government and the works shall have to be executed within time-lines with proper follow-up,” he said and added that the R&B Department must now gear up for providing quick results on the ground.
The Minister directed officials to make the process of execution of works hassle-free, saying that planning, construction, up-gradation and maintenance of roads, bridges and buildings must be the concern for all the officials of the Department. “Providing connectivity to unconnected habitations has to be our first objective,” he said and added that the PWD needs a professional touch and the Government will do everything to revamp this vital department.
“We will have to follow the procedural limitations and our core aim should be to develop transparent working culture in the department,” he added.
The Minister asked the officials to review the long pending construction and developmental projects and adhere to the set deadlines for their completion.
The Minister said that infrastructure deficit has been persistent in the State because of its topography. He said that PWD could be a vital department in bridging the gap and help the State to emerge on the infrastructure front.
