NCRAMSS-2017 concludes successfully at SMVDU

KATRA, Feb 17: The three day National Conference on "Recent Advances in Materials Science and Spectroscopy (NCRAMSS-2017)", 15-17 February, 2017 organized by Department of Physics Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra in collaboration with Laser and Spectroscopy Society of India (LASSI) concludes today at SMVDU.

Prof. A. K. Rai from University of Allahabad chaired the ‘valedictory function’.Prof. Rai addressed the audience with his enlightened words. Dr. S. K. Wanchoo, SMVDU, Dr. Yugal Khajuria, Head Department of Physics and Dr. Y.Dwivedi, Secretary, LASSI also shared their thoughts and graced the occasion.Dr.Vinay Kumar, Organizing Secretary, NCRAMSS-2017,  SMVDUsummarized the three day report in the function.

The conference involved Technical sessions which began with Keynote address by Prof. A. L. Verma, Eminent academician of repute. The first day presentations were based on Spectroscopy, nanomaterials, holography, LIBS  and other advance characterization techniques and second day was devoted on sub-themes; Energy Resources and solid state lighting, radiation dosimetry, imaging and optoelectronic materials.  Third day was focused to the themes such as smart and functional materials; material modifications; soft and biomaterials; x-ray characterizations; storage materials; Polymers and blends; IR/thermal Imaging, etc. 17 invited talks and 12 oral presentations were delivered by eminent speakers and academicians in this conference.

The first technical session was chaired by Dr. Kamni. The session had two invited talks. Prof. Vijay J Fulari from Shivaji University, Kohlapur delivered an invited talk on  holographicinterferrometry and its applications. This was followed by an Invited talk from Prof. A. K. Rai from University of Allahabad who spoke on impurities identification on tokomak chamber by LIBS.Dr. S. K. Wanchoo chaired the next technical session which had invited talk of Prof. Ravi Kumar, NIT Hamirpur. He presented a wonderful insight on the origin and search of d-0 magnetism in the MoO2, TiO2 and SnO2 thin films using x-ray absorption spectroscopy and underscored their importance in scientific world.  He threw light on this spectroscopy techniques with emphasizes that this is an element specific technique. He also recalled the contribution of eminent physicists and noble laureates and motivated the young scientists to achieve excellence.Prof. K. K. Bamzai, University of Jammu presented a talk on evaluating the characteristics of multiferroiccomposite. He explained the capability of multiferroic composite for integrating ferroelectric and ferromagnetic behavior of the materials which can produce large magnetoelectric effects due to interaction between the phases.

Dr A. K. Bedyal(an alumnus of SMVDU), University of the Free State, South Africa gave an overview on the basics of synthesis and thermoluminescence in the alkali borated nanophosphors for their practical use in radiation dosimetry.

Prof.Rajnikant from University of Jammu, in his presentation, explainedthe methodology for small molecules x-ray crystallography and encourage the audience especially the young researchers and students participants to use the extra ordinary research facility available in his lab at University of Jammu. He also underlined the need to strengthen the researchthrough collaborations. Prof. M. S. Mehato fromDelhi Technical University, spoke on the development of protein and metal ion sensitive luminescent semiconductor quantum dots. Dr. Shalender Kumar from Amity University Haryana spoke on the topic of “electronic structure and magnetic properties of DMS materials” and explained the physics of origin of ferromagnetism in these magnetic materials. He highlighted the importance of synchrotron radiation to study the fundamentals of spintronics materials.

Other invited speakers were Dr. Y. Dwevedi, NIT Kurukshetra, Dr. Vinod Kumar, IIT Delhi, Dr. Suman Kalyan Pal from IIT Mandi and many more academicians and  professionals from various parts of India. The invited speakers were felicitated at the end of each talk.

Prof. Lalji Dixit, CSIR IIP Dehradun and Dr. Sunil K Wanchoo, SMVDU chaired the poster sessions and out of 78 posters three best poster awards were given. The first prize was given to Ms. Bindu Raina, Jammu University second prize to N.C. Maile, Shivaji University Kohlapurand third prize was given to Nivethitha , Anna University.Bank Manager, J&K Bank SMVDU Branch, Sh. Vinod Vaid and Sh. Amit Gupta, Manager Accounts were presented with a memento as a token of appreciation for their financial support in the organization of the conference. Sh. Sanjeev Prabhakar from Sanjeev Caterers Jammu was also honored by Convener, Dr. Yugal Khajuria.
