Dy CM directs making IIT functional by next academic session

 

JAMMU, Oct 01:Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Singh today reviewed the status of the ongoing process for setting up of temporary campus of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Jammu and  directed the officers of the concerned departments to expedite the process for making the IIT functional from the next academic session.Terming it as an ambitious project for the state, the Deputy Chief Minister asked the concerned officers to complete all the requisite formalities for setting up of the IIT including finalization of hostel facility and stay of the faculty members. He directed the officers to visit the site of hostel campus to expedite the process.

 

Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Dr. Pawan Kotwal, Commissioner Secretary, Higher Education Department, Sarita Chauhan, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Simrandeep Singh, Additional District Development Commissioner, Jammu, Anuradha Gupta, Chief Engineer PWD (R&B) Alok Mengi, Principal SPMR College of Commerce Ajeet Angral and other officers of concerned departments were present in the meeting.Meanwhile, the Deputy CM also inspected the ongoing works of Convention Centre near the State Guest House.

 

Joint Director, Hospitality and Protocol Department, Indu Kanwal Chib also accompanied the Deputy CM during the visit. She informed that the convention centre houses an auditorium with a seating capacity of 450 persons, two seminar halls, state-of-the-art dining hall, VIP lounge, CM office, parking facility, Exhibition hall, three green rooms.  

 

The Convention Centre is being built at an area of about 50,000 sq. feet with building cover area of about 8,000 sq. feet.The Deputy CM directed the officers of Jammu and Kashmir Project Construction Corporation and SICOP to expedite the construction process.
