Vigilance Bureau arrests lecturer for accepting bribe of Rs 1.16 lakh

Mohali, Sept 03:  Punjab Vigilance Bureau arrested a lecturer Umesh Kumar Munjal posted at Government Senior Secondary School, Lalru in Mohali for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1.16 lakh on the assurances of transferring a teacher.

The complainant met the accused at Sri Muktsar Sahib in October 2021 and the lecturer demanded Rs 2 lakh to get her wife transferred.

The accused lecturer had taken Rs 1.16 lakh as an advance to get the job done but Punjab Education Department had opened the portal for online transfers on June 10, 2022, and on their application, his wife was transferred to Bhitiwala of Sri Muktsar Sahib district.

The accused was harassing them by demanding the remaining amount of bribe.

The spokesperson of VB said that a team of VB unit Fazilka has arrested the Lecturer Umesh Kumar Munjal after registering an FIR no. 21 dated 29-08-2023 under section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act against him at Police Station VB, Ferozepur Range.
