BANDIPORA, SEPTEMBER 28: On the directions of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Dr. Owais Ahmed, a Joint teams of Revenue, Police and Mining Department under the supervision of Tehsildar Sumbal conducted surprise raids early morning today at Shadipora, Wangipora and Shilvat areas to check the illegal extractions of sand from river Jhelum.
Officials informed that the illegal extractions were causing damages to the River Bund and increasing the vulnerability in times of floods.
During the raids, 3 boats and 4 vehicles were impounded in addition to seizure of material worth lakhs.
The DC said that illegal mining and sand extraction is banned in the district and warned of strict action against unlawful activities as per law.
