Kathua clashes: Peace restored, 4 persons arrested: DC Kathua

KATHUA, JANUARY 9: The police initiated prompt action and registered an FIR No: 05 U/S 295 A/298A/120B of RPC in Police Station Rajbagh, Kathua and arrested four suspected persons in connection with an incident that took place at village Haria Chak in Tehsil Marheen of district Kathua, a statement issued by District Magistrate Kathua, Mr Ramesh Kumar said.

He said further investigations have been taken up by the police in the case and peace has been restored in the area.

 

Quoting police, the statement said that an incident of alleged sacrilegious act was reported at village Haria Chak resulting in sloganeering and stone pelting by two groups of people in which several persons were injured. “Sensing trouble police resorted to baton-charging and tear-smoke shelling to control the situation,” it said.  

The statement said to pacify the agitators, DC Kathua, DIG Police Jammu-Kathua-Samba range Ashkoor Wani and SSP Kathua visited the spot and interacted with the representatives of both the communities and gave them a patient hearing and assured them of fair investigation with strict legal action against the accused.

 

“Civil and police administration took adequate precautionary measures and imposed section 144 Cr PC at village Haria Chak at Hiranagar sub division,” it said.
