Government keen on promotion of sports activities in the state: Ansari

SRINAGAR, Sep 18: The government is taking keen interest in upgradation of sports infrastructure and promotion of sports activities in the state. This was stated by Minister for Youth, Services & Sports, IT and Education Technology, Molvi Imran Raza Ansari at a function organised to mark the conclusion of School Level waters sports Competition-2015 at Nehru Park here today. The event was organised by District Youth Services and Sports Department.

 

The Minister said that present dispensation has taken various initiatives to raise requisite infrastructure for promotion of sports activities in the State. He added that youth in the state has huge talent and potential but what is required is to provide them with adequate facilities, infrastructure and motivation to excel. They are also required to be provided with an enabling environment and opportunities through such events. He further said that state’s sports infrastructure suffered heavy damage in the recent floods, but government is making concerted efforts to revive sports infrastructure in the state.

 

MLA, Abid Ansari, Director General of Youth, Services and Sports, Mr. Jehangir Mir, Chairman LAWDA, Sarmad Hafeez, and other senior officers of the department besides a large number of students were present on the occasion.The Minister made a special mention of efforts being made to include water sports in the SGFI calendar and to hold national events in water sports in Jammu & Kashmir.

 

Later, the Minister also gave away prizes among the winners. Yawar Abbass, of Boys Higher Secondary School, Nandpora bagged 1st position in long distance under 14, 2 km distance swimming competition while as Mohammad Younis of the same school stood 2nd and Saif Elahie of Middle School, Naidyar bagged the 3rd position.
