Kavinder for preparing youth as an action force for consumer protection

JAMMU, Dec 24 -  Speaker, J&K Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta today urged the youth to act as an ‘Action Force’ for creating awareness among local population regarding consumer rights. He said the youth are the right medium for educating the society about their rights and duties as consumers.

The Speaker said this during an event organized to celebrate the National Consumer Rights day at Yogananda College of Engineering and Technology, Akhnoor Road. The event was organized by Consumer Protection Organization (CPO).

Kavinder Gupta said that educational institutes are the right place to hold consumer rights awareness events, as an educated student has a multiplying effect in taking the message to the society besides being one of the largest consumer groups.

The Speaker also said that youth can be the right catalysts to motivate people to be vigilant and vocal about the unscrupulous traders and unfair practices of trade prevalent in the market. He said this will help protect rights of the consumers besides helping fight against the wrong doings and injustices meted out to them by the market.

Kavinder said that remembering rights and duties should not be limited to the consumer rights day celebrations but should be part of our day to day lives as every individual irrespective of their profession, trade are direct or indirect consumers and have a responsibility to become contributors in protecting these rights.

Also present on the occasion were Director FCS&CA G.S. Chib, Joint Controller LMD V. S. Sambyal and President CPO D.R. Danish, prominent members of civil society, heads of various trade organizations, members of CPO besides students, staff and management of the college.
