Plastic currency notes to be printed soon: RBI

New Delhi, Dec 9: The Reserve Bank of India on Friday said to Parliament that they were soon to print plastic currency notes and procurement of material has already started.  

They have decided to print banknotes based on plastic or polymer substrate.

This has been initiated by Minister of State for Finance Arjun Ram Meghwal, who replied in Lok Sabha asking whether they can change currency of plastic notes instead of paper notes.

 “It has been decided to print banknotes based on plastic or polymer substrate. The process of procurement has been initiated,” Minister of State for Finance Arjun Ram Meghwal said in a written reply in Lok Sabha.
