Navy to rescue 800 Tourists stranded in Andaman

New Delhi: The Indian Navy on Wednesday swung into action to rescue 800 tourists who were stranded at Andaman's Havelock Islands due to heavy rains.

The evacuation process, though, has not begun due to unfavourable conditions.

The Navy has pressed in three ships to evacuate the tourists after the island's civil administration telephonically requested the Centre for immediate help.

The MET department on Tuesday warned that the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago will receive rainfall in the next two days due to a depression over southeast Bay of Bengal. It also mentioned that the depression is likely to lead to a cyclonic storm in the next 48 hours.(Inputs from Agencies)
