Demonetization: CS briefs Union Cabinet Secy on functioning of banks, ATMs in JK


JAMMU, NOVEMBER 16 –Union Cabinet Secretary today convened a meeting of Chief Secretaries of various States through Video Conferencing to take stock of the situation after the withdrawal of legal tender character of existing Rs 500 and Rs 1000 denominations of bank notes.      

J&K Chief Secretary, Mr B R Sharma briefed the Union Cabinet Secretary about the functioning of banks, ATMs and availability of new currency notes across Jammu and Kashmir. He apprised the Union Cabinet Secretary about the overall scenario and requested for ensuring availability of adequate quantity of new notes, especially of Rs 500 and Rs 100 denominations in the banks and ATMs to ease the rush of customers.

He informed that the State Government has taken appropriate measures to deal with the situation.  The Deputy Commissioners/District SPs have been directed to provide necessary security support to the banks operating in the areas of their jurisdiction for the facility of customers and to avoid any untoward situation.

The Chief Secretary also briefed the Union Cabinet Secretary about the deposition of offerings at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine during the last 15 days.
