JMC seeks media support in effective implementation of civic works

JAMMU, Sep 11: Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation,  Mandeep Kour, today held an interactive session with the media fraternity to seek their support and suggestions in effective implementation of civic works of the Corporation especially sanitation.

 

“The objective and constructive reporting with sincere approach can immensely help bring in much required changes in the society besides supplementing government’s efforts of extending enhanced services to people”, the Commissioner maintained.  

 

While interacting with members of the fraternity, the Commissioner appealed the media to play their role with utmost care and concern as they are a strong bridge between the government and the people. She exhorted upon them to highlight the feedback about implementation of various programmes of the Corporation to ensure benefits to the deserving people.   The Commissioner said that the Corporation is working under a well knit strategy to deliver services in an effective manner to the common people. In this regard, she described public participation is of great significance without which the objectives like Swachh Bharat, Smart Cities cannot be achieved.

 

Mandeep Kaur asked the media persons to identify the grey areas and scope of improvement so that the proposal for construction of public assets accordingly be forwarded to the concerned quarters. She said that JMC has started exercise to identify sites for construction of ideal parking slots, super markets, commercial sites etc.

 

Regarding sanitation and other civic works, the Commissioner said that the Corporation is vigorously launching sanitation and anti encroachment drives which is receiving good response. She sought cooperation of media and public to ensure effective implementation of such drives. In this regard, zone wise committees comprising senior citizens and locals would be constituted to ensure accountability and proper monitoring of development works and sanitation drives, she added.

 

Referring to delivery of speedy and transparent services to people through e-governance, the Commissioner informed that the Corporation is working hard in this regard.

 

 Regarding encroachment in old city, the Commissioner said that state government is making a comprehensive policy to contain this menace and the Corporation is preparing hard to implement the same. She said that commercial areas are being developed to enhance business activities.

 

Mandeep said that many development projects, envisaging a total change in the profile of Jammu city, are in pipeline. She informed that JMC is celebrating sanitation week from September 25 on the occasion of 1st anniversary of Swatch Bharat Abhiyan scheme launched by the Prime Minster of India.   

 

Joint Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation, R.S. Jamwal, Health Officer Dr. Mohammad Saleem, Municipality Veterinary Officer Dr. Zafar Iqbal besides other officers of JMC and media persons were present on the occasion.
