District Admin Srinagar conducts Mock drill to check winter preparedness

SRINAGAR, Nov 10:- As a part  of winter preparedness particularly with regard to snow clearance, the District Administration Srinagar Wednesday Morning conducted a Mock Drill to undertake a test drive of various Machines to check their proper functioning.
The Mock Drill was held in wake of the directions passed in a meeting held by the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar on November 06 with regard to winter preparations in the Meeting Hall of the DC Office Complex.
The several teams of R&B, MED PHE, KPDCL, SMC, Fire and Emergency and other Departments constituted by the District Administration conducted exercise from Shalteng to Dalgate via Bypass, Tengpora, Court Road, Qamarwari, Batamaloo, News Secretariat, Lal Chowk and other adjoin areas under the supervision of concerned Superintendent Engineers and Tehsildars.
In this regard, the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad who is also the Chairman District Disaster Management Authority said that basic purpose of the Mock Drill was to undertake a test drive of Men and Machinery kept ready to ensure all essential supplies including supply of water and power do not get affected, besides snow is cleared from roads at the earliest so that general public do not face any inconvenience during winters.
        The Deputy Commissioner further said that such Mock Drills are also aimed to chalk out a detailed plan regarding snow clearance and dewatering operations in the city areas.
The DC further informed that a comprehensive plan for priority areas where snow will be removed in the first phase has been finalized to ensure all essential installations like Hospitals, Power stations, Government Offices, Religious places, Ration depots and other places of importance will be attended to swiftly during snowfall.
The DC said that ground staff has been already alerted and instructed that all necessary snow-clearance machines are kept on a standby mode so that they are mobilised immediately on the day of snowfall.
