50 FPOs being set up in J&K in next 6 months; women & Tribal population to get priority: Yasha Mudgal

JAMMU, JULY 13: Secretary, Cooperatives Department, Yasha Mudgal today said that the government has set a target of establishing 50 Farmers Producer Organisations (PO)s in Jammu and Kashmir in the next 6 months. The women & Tribal population will be given priority in the process, she added.

The Secretary was speaking at a meeting organized by J&K Dairy Producers Processors and Marketing Cooperative Union limited (JKDCUL) to discuss the Sahkar Se Samridhi and Revival of the Cooperative Movement in the JK-UT.

Shafqat Iqbal, Registrar Cooperative Societies and a large number of stakeholders of cooperative movement were present in the meeting.

In her address, Yasha Mudgal said that the motive of organising such seminars is to set in the process of revival of the cooperative movement by creation of Farmers Producer Organisations (FPOs) in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir with the aim of providing more benefits to farmers.

She promised to fast track registrations of new age cooperatives under various activities of cooperatives.

She also appreciated NABARD Jammu, KVK (SUKAST) and the Agriculture department for giving detailed account of schemes for promotion of Cooperatives in the Jammu Kashmir UT.

She insisted on creation of new Cooperatives for getting benefits of Farmer Produce Organizations (FPOs) through various government agencies.

The Secretary said that the JK-UT has a vast potential in the Cooperative sector for pushing the economic growth of farmers and the government is committed to provide the best market value to the farmers' produce.
