JAMMU, June 23: Apni Party District Committee today staged a protest against the price rise of essential commodities here outside Press Club, Jammu.

Led by District President, Jammu, Pranav Shagotra, the protesting Apni Party leaders staged the demonstration in favour of their demands to control the inflation of prices of essential commodities.

The Apni Party leaders were shouting slogans against the price rise which has financially overburdened the general public.

“The price rise of petrol, diesel and cooking gas has adversely affected the common people’s budget due to which vegetables, fruit and groceries items, rice, flour and other goods of daily use have become costlier,” said Pranav Shagotra, Jammu District, President.

He said that the Govt. should reduce taxes and monitor the back marketers so that the general public is not put to unnecessary harassment at the time when pandemic has weakened the economy.

“People have lost their businesses and jobs. We should provide relief to the people and waive-off the electricity and water bills during the covid19 period,” he demanded.

With regard to the water and electricity crisis in Jammu in the winter season, he said the PDD and Jal Shakti Department have completely failed to provide round the clock supply in the residential colonies.

“The unscheduled power curtailment has affected drinking water supply. There is dire need to take immediate remedial measures. Fixing responsibility on the erring officer is a good decision by the Govt, but there is a need to chalk out a plan to ensure 24/7 electricity supply. Punishing officers will not solve the problem. We think that the PDD should come up with a plan to ensure proper electricity supply,” he added.

Prominent among those who took part in the protest included State General Secretary Youth, Abhay Bakaya, District Vice President, Vaibhav Mattoo, District President Trade Union, Anirudh Vashist, Joginder Singh, Vishal Jotshi, Atul Sharma, Sardesh Rana, Deepak Bradu, Prikshit, Vipul Bali, Jatinder Singh, Sunil Gupta, Ankit Sood, Mohammed Asif, Mohammed Ashraf, Rajinder Kumar (Sevak), Vivek, Suraj, Anmol Singh, Charanjeet Singh, Atinder Singh and others.
