SRINAGAR, Sep 02: The Transport Commissioner (TC), who is also Chairman State Transport Authority today, issued a notification regarding using of legitimate fare meters in passenger auto rickshaws plying in the State.
According to the notification it has been observed that some of the passenger auto rickshaws plying in the State are charging exorbitant fare without use of legitimate fare meters certified by the department of Legal Meteorology thereby fleecing the commuters.
The Commissioners has enjoined upon all the owners of passenger auto rickshaws to charge only such rates as have been approved by State Transport Authority, J&K by use of legitimate fare meters failing which punitive action under central Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and J&K Motor Vehicle Rules 1991, including seizure of auto rickshaw shall be initiated against the violators without giving any further opportunity.
