Div Com reviews progress on Airport expansion project in Jammu

JAMMU, July 26:  Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Dr Pawan Kotwal today reviewed the progress on the shifting of the civil and defence utilities to facilitate the completion of Jammu Airport expansion project.  

 The proposed expansion of Jammu Airport, besides up grading infrastructure, envisages extension of the existing run way length of 6700 feet to 8000 feet towards the River Tawi end which will make possible operation of all types of aircraft.   

The meeting was attended by IGP Jammu Danesh Rana, Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control Rajeev Gandotra, Chief Engineer S&O PDD Ravi Chargal , Assistant Commissioner Revenue  Sachin Dev Singh, Airport Authority of India Rajeev Goyal, Airport Director D K Goutam, Director ERA Jammu Ravinder Raina, Superintendent Engineer  UEED A K Vaid, Superintendent Engineer (R&B) Sudheer Shah, Superintendent Engineer ERA Sanjeev Kumar, Executive Engineer Mohammad Abdullah besides senior officers of Army, R&B, PWD, Animal & Sheep Husbandry and other concerned departments.

The Divisional Commissioner asked the agencies associated with the project to synchronize their working to ensure early completion of the prestigious project. He asked them to work together to remove bottlenecks.

The meeting was informed that PWD(R&B) will hand over all the Defence utilities shifted from the Satwari cantonment area to Army by September end this year.

The Chief Engineer I&FC briefed the meeting about the status of the alignment of Irrigation canal. He said that the 1 kilometer canal has been realigned while further work is hampered due to court cases filed by locals.

Divisional Commissioner asked I&FC department to take up the issue with the Advocate General and pursue the cases closely so that the held up work was resumed.  

Divisional Commissioner also directed ACR Jammu to identify the land to relocate the Animal Husbandry Department at Belicharana at the earliest. 

Reviewing the shifting of utilities by other departments,   Divisional Commissioner directed the PDD department to expedite the work on the execution of 28 towers to shift 132 KV line. It was informed that sites for new towers have been earmarked and the work is under progress.
